The course's modules
North West Province Overview North West Province Overview In the first component of this module, the student is introduced to the North West, including demographics, districts, main routes and places of interest, economy and the cultures. In the second component, the emphasis falls on the natural features, such as geology, rivers, mountains, nature and conservation.
Historical Overview of the North West Historical Overview of the North West In the first component we learn about the origins of man, the Stone Age, the arrival of Iron Age people and the origin of the BaTswana. Component two focuses on tribal wars, the Difaqane and Mzilikazi and the arrival of the Voortrekker to the region. In component three, more conflict and wars, apartheid and finally a new dawn for the North West.
Bojanala region Bojanala region In this module we explore Hartbeespoort Dam and surrounds (including Lesedi and De Wildt Cheetah Farm), Rustenburg, Sun City, Pilanesberg Great Marico and other towns in the Bojanala region.
Central Region Central Region In Component one, we visit the capital of the North West, Mafikeng, as well as towns along the N4 to the border with Botswana and Madkiwe Game Reserve. Component two explores Lichtenburg, towns on the N14 and Ottosdal.
Southern Region Southern Region In the two components of this module, we focus on towns along the N12, passing the deepest mine in the world, the first town in the Transvaal (Potchefstroom), the Goldfields around Stilfontein, Klerksdorp and Orkney, to Christiana, where we leave the province. Also find out where the first white child in the province was born.
Bophirima Region Bophirima Region We travel on the N18, from the northeast to Vryburg, and from there in a southernly direction to Taung, which was placed on the map by a remarkable discovery. Also included, are the towns of Schweizer-Reneke and Reveilo, the latter having an interesting origin for its name. Although not situated in the province, we also have a look at the Vaal-Harts irrigation scheme.
